Things I wish classrooms could teach kids.
Every teacher has an important role in the development and nurturing of a young mind. Just like a parent, a teacher shoulders almost equal responsibility in the upbringing of a child. Knowledge is imparted to kids in various forms: through facts and figures. Their horizons are developed across a wide spectrum of subjects. Extra cirricular activities help develop their talents and interests. And they all are expected to excel at everything they do.
Academics do form a vital part of every child’s life. They set the ground for future learning and achievement in life. However, knowing about stuff just doesn’t cut it at times. A human being is a mix of so many things; and there is no end to self betterment.
Here are some of the things I wish kids could be taught at school:
- A sense of humor
- True respect. For everyone and everything.
- Caring about others’ interests with our own
- Empathy
- The importance of working smart
- Having an individuality
- Not being afraid to be “weird”
- Being kind
- Being brave in the face of challenges
- Having a personality. A good aura.
- Spreading smiles and laughter.
- The realization of being one with the universe.
Books impart knowledge through facts. But facts don’t make life. The Pythagoras theorem doesn’t help us be a nice person. Knowledge is important. But it isn’t everything. A lot of learning in life comes with experiences and incidents- which can never be replicated in a classroom.
